Sales & Trading

The Sales & Trading team is the independent broker of choice on the Italian market for top domestic and international institutional investors.

Equita boasts the largest independent sales team in Italy, made of highly experienced professionals who manage long-lasting relations with over 400 institutional clients and more than 80 banking clients with a network of roughly 5,000 branches.

We offer access to all major financial instruments and international markets, providing best-in-class solutions to all types of clients, from investors to banks, to issuing companies.

 

Institutional clients

The brokerage services we offer to clients include sale and trading of equities, bonds, derivatives and exchange traded funds (ETF). The team also spreads research contents, provides detailed analyses of the companies listed on the Italian and European markets, and offers placement services in transactions arranged by the Investment Banking team.

Equita guarantees best execution and timely transaction settlement to clients, thanks to a well-experienced back office.

The Sales & Trading team is also recognised as one of the leading teams in Italy by the most prestigious Italian and international institutional investors’ surveys.

 

Retail Hub

In 2018, the Global Markets’ team broadened its scope of business by acquiring the primary markets and market making unit from Nexi (the Retail Hub) and adding it to the well-established stock brokerage platform that has always helped institutional investors.

 

Client-Driven & Market Making

Equita offers proprietary trading services to its clients (Client-Driven). Client-driven trades are often quote driven trades and do not entail a significant risk profile. We are focused on using our books in order to help clients to implement their investment strategies.

Equita also acts as market maker by quoting bid-ask or bid only quotes and providing liquidity to the market.

Some of the main activities of the desk:

• Specialist - activities on bonds traded on MOT, EUROTLX and HI-MTF, certificates traded on SEDEX and EUROTLX, stocks traded on the MTA and AIM Italia markets, to improve and sustain the liquidity of clients’ financial Instruments.
• Brokerage - execution of client orders for debt instruments not traded on regulated markets, ETFs and stocks.
• Market maker - market making activities on stocks listed on the FTSE MIB index and on bonds; the team displays buy and sell quotes to favour liquidity into the market.

 

Fixed Income

Within the Global Markets area, Equita offers brokerage services on debt securities (fixed income). Equita covers the entire value chain, from primary market to secondary market and market making, to constantly support clients in all stages of the assessment of new investment opportunities.

Equita is a key partner for bond placements and brokerage services on fixed income, providing banks with essential liquidity services. Using its proprietary books, Equita quotes around 400 high liquidity bonds and 200 branded bonds addressed to retail clients on Italian and international.

 

Directional Trading

The Proprietary Trading team executes proprietary trading and brokerage transactions, offering a full range of services client-oriented whilst maintaining a risk level in line with a prudent capital management strategy.

In addition to the client-oriented activities conducted by the team, the trading desk of Equita also trades on its own accounts with proprietary strategies. This typically involves a minor degree of risk.

The main trading strategies includes “pure” directional trading (trading of stocks, derivatives, bonds and ETFs using investment strategies based on fundamental analysis, technical analysis and/or news on corporate issuers and/or market-sensitive news), risk arbitrage & special situations (valuations, also using special algorithms, of investment opportunities based on "relative value" strategies as well as investment opportunities arising from corporate actions and/or extraordinary transactions) and volatility trading (market maker of options on listed stocks where the team quotes buy and sell proposals to support liquidity).

 

Awards of the Global Markets division

 

In 2022 the team confirmed its excellent ranking (n.2) in the survey “Italy Sales” category and n.1 among Italian independent brokers.

The team was top ranked in the “Italy Trading & Execution” category as well for its ability to serve institutional clients with standing solutions, and n.2 in the “Italy Corporate Access” category for its corporate access activities - n.1 among Italian independent brokers, thanks to Equita’s ability to arrange meetings, sector conferences and videoconferences, and promote dialogue opportunities between investors and listed companies.
